To use TallyTrak for InstaCaliper, you will need to set up "Tasks," "Lists" & "List Items" in the Web Portal. On the Web Portal, "List Items" are subservient to "Lists," which are subservient to "Tasks." See Understanding Tasks & Lists. You can create as many "Lists" and "List Items" as you want. Each "List" can have as many "List Items" as you want; however, each "Task" can only have five "Lists" attached to it.
We recommend that you start by thinking about what type of information you want to gather for each "Task" done in the nursery - this type of information would likely be a "List." In a nursery, it is likely that you will want a "List" named Tree Variety or Variety so that you can track tree varieties.
Possible Nursery "Lists" and "List Items"
If you are going to track tree varieties, you would create a "List" called Tree Variety or Variety. Subservient to Variety, you can create as many "List Items" as you need. Some things to consider:
- How do you want to format tree names. For example, do you want to know the Common Name + Genus + Species?
- How will you order the variety names?
Example - List = "Variety":
List Items under "Variety" might be --
- Red Maple
- Acer rubrum’
- Red Maple ‘Acer rubrum’
- Acer rubrum (Red Maple)

Possible Nursery Tasks
Once you have decided how you want to divide information into "Lists" and "List Items," you will want to create "Tasks" to which you will link the "Lists." "Tasks" are top-level categories of information and are easily sorted in a report. The following are examples only. You will create "Tasks" that fit your business processes.
